The Differences Between PRK Vs LASIK

We have often heard about LASIK and the way it can give us a perfect vision. The interesting is, not many people have heard of this term Photorefractive Keratectomy, also known as PRK. PRK is also a very common laser eye sugery that has been around for at least 2 decades.

So, let me compare PRK vs LASIK. We will look at the various similiarities and the differences. After reading this, you will need to know which procedure is suitable for your eye surgery. The similarities between PRK and LASIK:
1) There is no pain during the entire surgery
2) Both require medication for the eyes for a few days after the surgery
3) Both need some months of recovery from the surgery
4) Both are effective to treat myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism

In fact, two of them have almost the identitial outcome in achieving the perfect vision. Many patients have achieve good vision with either PRK or LASIK.

1) Patients with certain corneal conditions or corneal scars have to go for PRK, LASIK is not recommended
2) Lens “bandage” seems to be required after the sugery
3) LASIK has an additional step which requires the creation of a flap
4) PRK does not need tocreate a flap, but accesses the cornea’s inner layers by removing the thin outer layer of the cornea
5) Patient prefers LASIK because it heals faster

While there are some main differences, both procedures are safe.
