As promised in my earlier article on Ultimate Ab Workout Men I’m going to share with you some of my unusual sources of protein.
Protein is without a doubt the best way to build muscles, burn fat and achieve our physical goals. But only the purest, high quality protein will allow you to achieve those goals. That’s why I’ve put together this quick start guide. But remember that quantity is equally as important as quality. To build as much muscle as possible you must consume 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. Bookmark this page now, or write down the information as it will serve you well in the future.
Cods On The Menu
For every 100 grams of Cod you eat, just 0.5% of that is saturated fat making it one of the best sources of animal proteins around. It’s also an awesome source of magnesium, in fact, eating just 300 grams (a small plate) of Cod will give your your RDA of magnesium in one meal. Magnesium helps muscles through contraction, allowing you to avoid muscle cramp while training.
The bad: It’s high in sodium (salt) but begrudging a seawater fish for being too salty is like resenting a lap dancer for wearing tassels.
If you need something to eat alongside your Cod I recommend broccoli. In recent medical studies, scientists have discovered that foods rich in selenium and sulforaphane can have a powerful effect on cancer, 13 times more powerful if eaten together. This was music to my ears as my favourite dish of Cod and broccoli is rich in both!
Molluscs Like Clams Are Another Good Source Of Protein
This unusual source of protein also contains over three times the RDA of the rare vitamin B12. B12 is used by your nervous system to work efficiently, and it also supplies the energy your body needs for the metabolism of carbs, proteins and fats. Selenium is also found in molluscs. This antioxidant can prevent your muscles from cramping after an intense workout.
Clams do have a downside however – they contain high levels of cholesterol, which can be a pain for some people.
Vitamin C can help your body to absorb a larger amount of the Iron found in the clams, so try eating tomatoes alongside them.
